Long, black flatness of the plains,
Gray, pint, violet, and gold of dawn,
Huge round orange of sun
Rising higher in the sky.
What’s that I see in the distance?
A mirage of mountains after all the flatness?
An image culled from my childhood?
Till I am sure…
Fantastic Rockies burst upon my consciousness!
I’ll NEVER FORGET!
Nor hope to convey your immensity.
Larger than any mountain of the past.
I wish to have been the first ever to see you.
Yet, I am.
No one has ever experienced
Tangled unfathomable emotions,
Rising in my heart and soul,
At the sight of you!
